Controls may include contractors, relays, circuit boards, capacitors, sump heat and other accessories. All control box and electrical parts should be checked for wear or damage. Environment Friendly Refrigerant R22 To R410 There are two types of refrigerants used by air conditioning units and these are R22 and R410A. The continued use of these refrigerants is largely explained by the fact that they are environment friendly refrigerants and not likely to pose serious environmental risks like their other counterparts. The R22 refrigerant is generally an HCFC or single hydro chlorofluorocarbon compound. Besides its potential of causing ozone depletion being low, this refrigerant also has a low content of chlorine, which makes it a friendly compound to the environment. It was rumored that manufacturing of R22 would be stopped from the year 2010 and only recycled can be used. The R410 refrigerant is non- CFM which makes it environmentally friendlier compared to most of the other refrigerants. The best thing with using R410 is that even if it leaks and escapes your refrigerant, it doesn’t contribute to the depletion of the ozone layer. Ideally, R410 was manufactured to replace R22, which proved to be a threat to the environment and due to serious international concerns on the environment; R22 is expected to be phased out completely by 2020. Scientists discovered that R22, which was the most commonly used refrigerant in air conditioners, contributed greatly to the depletion of the ozone layer. R410 was passed for use during Montreal Protocol treaty as it was found not to contribute to depletion of the ozone layer. Unlike the alkyl halide refrigerants which largely comprise of chlorine and bromine, R410 only contains fluorine and doesn’t cause ozone layer depletion. For this reason, it is becoming used more widely by manufacturers who are keen to phase out refrigerants that deplete the ozone layer and contribute greatly to environmental pollution such as R-22. Despite this, R410 also has some issues as its global warming potential is considerably high.
